My first post

So, this is my very very very 1st post.

My Instagram profile mentions ... "Pretend, yet wanna-be, blogger".  I've been wanting to blog for a long time and yes, eventually I do want to be a good blogger - for now, I'll just PRETEND that I'm a blogger, let alone "good". 😇

My family started in the hotel industry in the 1940s with my grandfather (who I've been named after) and grandmother (Khorshed) acquiring the Bristol Hotel in Karachi, which was still part of India then.  The Weismann family were leaving Karachi and it seemed like an opportunity to my grandfather then...little knowing what was to lie in store for him.  More on this later.

My grandfather had a great saying by William Shakespeare which he lived by -

"There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat. And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures" - William Shakespeare.

The Bristol hotel was just such a "tide" and opportunity.

    I would encourage you to write the blogs as I would be happy to read them. Great quote that you mentioned and I am sure your grandparents were amazing people based on what I know of your wonderful family.

Common Sense has “left the building”!

PRINT … SOCIAL … what next … HOLOGRAPHIC???

 October 6, 2020   Hotels [rooms] marketing used to be so much easier- you put an advert in the newspaper or magazine to promote your product or facility or promotion.   That’s IT!   TV was around but one of the most expensive mediums to market a hotel- and only the large Hiltons, Hyatts and Sheratons of the world used it.   Then came the ‘90s email usage on a commercial basis, so we started emailing clients and guests.   Close on its heels came the WWW … followed by our “friend”, SOCIAL MEDIA in the last decade!   Very very confusing … not only to customers – with the JUNK being posted daily - but also to hotels.   Where & who do we market to?   When will our customer be “online”? Who will see our advert in the clutter & junk of the information available on the Web & Social?   Newspapers officially have a shelf life of 24 hours … in practice, it’s a few hours – the moment the paper is put back...
